Getting Started

What is Myna?
Myna is a desktop app for recording, transcribing, and summarising calls. Everything runs locally on your device — your recordings, transcripts, and AI summaries never leave your machine. It is built for professionals who need privacy by default.
Which meeting apps are supported?
Myna works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, Slack, Discord, GoTo Meeting, and BlueJeans. It also detects browser-based meetings. Because Myna captures audio at the OS level, it works with any application that produces sound.
What are the system requirements?
Windows 10 or Windows 11. Approximately 500MB of disk space for the app and base transcription model. 8GB RAM recommended. More RAM helps when using larger whisper models such as large-v3-turbo.
Do I need an internet connection?
Only for a few specific tasks: calendar sync, licence activation (one-time), model downloads (one-time), and auto-update checks (optional). Recording and transcription work completely offline.

Recording

How does recording work?
Myna captures system audio (what you hear) and your microphone (what you say) as separate tracks. This works with any app that produces sound — no plugins or integrations required.
Does Myna inject into other apps?
No. Myna captures audio at the OS level using WASAPI. There are no hooks, no plugins, and no modifications to your meeting apps. It is completely non-invasive.
Can I record phone calls?
Only if the audio plays through your computer, for example via softphone apps. Myna captures system audio output, so if you can hear it through your speakers or headset, Myna can record it.
Is it legal to record meetings?
Laws vary by jurisdiction. Some require all-party consent, others only single-party consent. You are responsible for ensuring compliance with your local laws. We recommend informing all participants that the meeting is being recorded.

Transcription

How does transcription work?
Myna uses whisper.cpp running locally on your machine. No audio is sent to any server. Transcription happens as a background task after your recording ends.
What languages are supported?
English by default, plus 20+ additional languages via auto-detection or manual selection in settings.
What's the difference between the base and large-v3-turbo models?
The base model (~150MB) is fast but less accurate. The large-v3-turbo model (~1.6GB) is significantly more accurate, especially for accents, technical terms, and noisy environments. Pro users can download the larger model from Settings.
Can I store models on a different drive?
Yes. Go to Settings > Transcription > Models Location to choose any directory on any drive.

Privacy & Security

Where is my data stored?
In your Documents/Myna folder by default (configurable in Settings). Recordings are stored as M4A audio files, transcripts as JSON and plain text. All formats are open and accessible without Myna.
Does any data leave my device?
No. Recordings, transcripts, and summaries never leave your machine. The only network calls are calendar sync (read-only), licence validation (one-time), and model downloads. No telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting.
What about the AI summaries?
Summaries are generated using Ollama running locally on your machine. The transcript text is processed entirely on your device and never sent anywhere.
Can Myna access my files?
Myna only accesses its own recording directory and app data. It does not scan or access other files on your system.

Account & Billing

Do I need an account?
No. Myna works without any account or login. Download, install, and start using it immediately.
How does the trial work?
You get 14 days of full Pro features from first launch. No credit card required. After the trial, you keep the Free tier (recording only) or upgrade to Pro for transcription, AI summaries, and more.
How do I activate a licence?
After purchasing via Stripe, you receive a licence key by email. Open Myna and go to Settings > Licence > "I have a licence key" and paste it in. Activation requires a one-time internet connection.
Can I use my licence on multiple computers?
Yes, up to 3 devices per licence key.
How do I cancel?
Manage your subscription via Stripe's customer portal (link in your purchase confirmation email). Your recordings and transcripts remain on your device regardless of your subscription status.

Calendar Integration

Which calendars are supported?
Google Calendar and Microsoft 365.
What data does Myna access from my calendar?
Read-only access to event titles, times, attendees, and meeting URLs. Myna never modifies your calendar. Calendar data is cached locally on your device.
Can I connect multiple accounts?
Yes. You can connect multiple Google and Microsoft accounts simultaneously.
